The Gun and the Olive Branch: Anti-Colonial Armed Struggle from South Africa to Palestine Book Description
The book "The Gun and the Olive Branch: Anti-Colonial Armed Struggle from South Africa to Palestine" by Ronnie Kasrils explores the parallels and differences between the anti-apartheid struggle in South Africa and the Palestinian liberation movement. It draws on South Africa’s anti-apartheid struggle to examine how armed resistance, mass mobilization, underground organization, and international solidarity can advance Palestinian liberation. The book is a significant contribution to understanding the historical and political foundations of Palestinian resistance, addressing the conditions of settler colonialism, dispossession, occupation, and the ongoing genocide in Gaza. It challenges the dominant Western discourse that reduces Palestinian resistance to terrorism while excluding the conditions from which it emerged.
