The Thorn and the Carnation is a compelling novel by Yahya Al-Sinwar, written during his long imprisonment in Israeli jails. This work provides a unique insight into the resilience and mindset of a man central to Palestinian resistance. The story spans the years of Al-Sinwar’s incarceration, exploring a spirit unbroken by confinement. It details a journey of endurance and traces the thinking that would later define his leadership. Readers are invited into his inner world, where ideas such as the “Flood of Al-Aqsa” operation, launched on 7 October 2023, may have first taken shape.More than a story of survival, the novel testifies to the spirit of a people in perpetual struggle. It offers a glimpse into the sacrifices and conflicts that drive Al-Sinwar and his comrades in their quest for liberation. The English translation preserves the intensity of Al-Sinwar’s voice, allowing global readers to connect with the story’s emotional depth and political perspective. As Al-Sinwar’s influence continues to shape events in the Middle East, the book emerges as an essential read for those seeking to understand this complex landscape. It is a powerful blend of history and insight—an account alive with the passion and resolve of a leader, reflecting on the past and projecting a view into the region’s future.

About the BookThe map changing leader of Islam, Al- FAROOQ, Hazrat Umar bin Khattaab Radiallahu Anhu wrote to the people of Kufa instructing them,"Teach your women Surah Noor!"Nothing more needs to be said about the importance of this Surah, knowing that Hazrat Umar the Great, Radiallahu Anhu, the sahabi whose views have been considered by Allah Ta'aala Himself, deemed it important for women to learn this Surah. This Surah is specifically aimed at women as it deals with issues that are close to a woman's heart, such as protecting the diamond within her, her chastity, covering her precious body, laws pertaining to the veil (hijab and niqaab), lowering the gaze, the consequences of not valuing herself, succumbing to carnal passions, and illuminating her body, heart, mind and soul with purity thereby swimming deep in the oceans of the Light of Allah Ta'aala.A woman is the fresh breeze on a summer day, the first drop of snow in winter, the glistening dewdrop on a leaf in spring, the striking, falling, red leaves of autumn, the charm of Layla, the love of Majnoon. Her walk, her talk, her smile, her very being exudes elegance and attracts admiration. There is therefore no doubt as to why Shaytaan uses women as nets to lure even the wisest and most religious of men. This is why women are strongly encouraged to learn and study this Surah. She is the backbone of a spiritual, enlightened society. Alas, if she loses her self-worth, generations of humanity suffer! And if she acquires purity and piety, generations prosper!

You will never understand why you’re here if you don’t know the One who brought you here. You will never understand why you were blessed with something, if you don’t know what it means to be a blessing yourself. You will never understand why you’re in pain, if you don’t believe in the virtue of patience. You will never make sense of this life, if you don’t believe in an afterlife. You will never know who you are, if you don’t know who you want to become. You will never know where you are going, if you don’t know where you came from. We live in a world full of suffering which is meant to wake us from our slumber. But if we constantly dwell on what we feel has missed us, we may be missing out on a far greater sense of purpose and self-worth. A life with less confusion and more certainty. A life of meaning where we learn to live in harmony with divine decree, so that we could get to know our Lord who created us and our stories. You may have asked before, why me? But have you ever asked, why not me ?
A Collection of Personal Narratives by Muslim Women is an anthology of writing that draws on the lived realities of Muslim women. Food and cooking, hardship and conflict, intimacy, baby-making, children, living with in-laws and self-esteem are some of the experiences unpacked in this collection of poignant personal narratives. This collection will remind and reassure that, although life brings with it many challenges, you as a woman are never alone in what you go through - many women walk the journey with you.
This book is an adaptation of the Muqaddimah or Preface to Mohammad Akram’s 40-volume biographical dictionary (in Arabic) of the Muslim women who studied and taught hadith. It demonstrates the central role women had in preserving the Prophet’s teaching, which remains the master-guide to understanding the Qur'an as rules and norms for life. Within the bounds of modesty in dress and manners, women routinely attended and gave classes in the major mosques and madrasas, travelled intensively for ‘the knowledge’, transmitted and critiqued hadith, issued fatwas, etc. Some of the most renowned scholars among men have depended on, and praised, the scholarship of their women teachers. The women scholars enjoyed considerable public authority in society, not exceptionally, but as the norm. The huge body of information reviewed in al-Muhaddithat is essential to understanding the role of women in Islamic society, their past achievement and future potential. Hitherto it has been so dispersed as to be ‘hidden’. Akram’s dictionary will greatly facilitate further study, contextualization and analysis.Mohammad Akram, currently a fellow of the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, is an alumnus of the prestigious Nadwatul Ulama, Lucknow. He has written many books on hadith, fiqh, Islamic biography, and Arabic grammar. This is his first major publication in English. The cover shows the study journeys of Fatimah bint Sa`d al-Khayr, and a few of her principal teachers and students. Her family moved from Valencia to the western edge of China; she died in Cairo in 600 AH. (Full map and details in ch. 3.)Includes maps, charts & illustrations
This book presents ninety-nine of Allah’s beautiful names. This book is a new translation of Imam al-Ghazali’s Adab fi al-Din, a concise yet thorough guide to proper Islamic conduct and character in a wide range of life situations. While numerous works discuss adab – translated here as “etiquette and manners” – this text stands out for its practical approach, structured in the manner of a handbook for quick and easy reference when the need appears.
Al-Ghazali begins by outlining the essential principles that govern all interactions with other people and with oneself, and which every Muslim should strive to embody and cultivate within his or her life. He then proceeds to a discussion of adab with Allah, as the relationship with the Creator is at the heart of a Muslim’s character. The Imam details how one may cultivate reverence, humility, and mindfulness in this relationship, and provides practical advice regarding how to consistently remember Allāh, fulfill His commands, and show patience during life’s challenges.
The core of the book is a sort of practical manual of adab, and includes sections on such everyday issues as:
The Adab of the Scholar, Student, Reciter of the Qur’an, Muhaddith, Khatib, and many other roles related to worship and seeking knowledge
Adab of fasting, eating, drinking, giving and receiving charity, giving and receiving gifts, and of being wealthy or poor
Adab of sleep, waking, being in public and in social gatherings, and other ordinary life situations
Adab of husbands and wives, parents and children, and other relationships
Adab of some common professions
Most individual sections occupy no more than one page, with some requiring only a short paragraph to cover the essential issues that guide one’s approach to each scenario. The book then concludes with a discussion of universal adab, a general discussion that applies to many disparate areas of life.
Regarding the sources of our knowledge of adab, as well as its significance in the life of a believer, the Imam writes:
The most perfect and lofty character as well as the best and most splendid of actions is to have adab [good manners] as [explained by] the religion. It is for the believer to emulate the actions of the Lord of the Worlds, as well as the character of the prophets and messengers. Allah, the most High, has refined our manners through His exposition of the Quran as well as through His Prophet Muhammad ﷺ by commanding us to [adhere to] his sunna. [We owe Him] for this benevolence. He has also refined our manners through the companions, their successors, as well as the people of adab from amongst the believers, by obligating us to emulate them.
This is a text that the reader will want to keep within easy reach, and consult regularly for guidance on the many and varied situations that occur in one’s life.
Shems Friedlander has studied with Sufi Shaykhs throughout the Middle East – in Makkah, Madinah, Cairo and Istanbul. Here he presents ancient Sufi teaching stories rooted in the Islamic tradition. With common sense and insightful wit, he addresses questions and problems of contemporary life and awakens our attention to the often overlooked moments that give importance and meaning to our lives. Through the re-telling of classical stories and his own commentary, a pattern unfolds that helps to distinguish knowledge from information, reality from imagination, and makes what seems to lie beyond our perception – understanding and brief – accessible. Our spiritual potential as human beings is realised in “When You Hear Hoofbeats Think of a Zebra”.

“I intend.”
With those two words, our lens of perspective, and our entire approach to everything we do, can change.
The Book of Intentions a new translation of Kitab al-Niyyat by Habib Muhammad ibn ʿAlawi al-ʿAydarus, better known as Ḥabīb Sa’d. In this text, Habib Sa’d explores the transformative power of intention (niyyah) in Islamic practice. Rooted in the profound and widely-known hadith that “actions are by intentions,” this book guides readers through the process of aligning one’s daily actions with one’s intention and purpose, such that every deed is transformed into an act of worship.
Throughout the text, Habib Saʿd emphasizes that the heart’s intentions are more significant than physical actions alone; and that even small acts, when performed with the right intention, can yield immense spiritual rewards.
The Book of Intentions is structured around various themes, such as:
Visiting the mosque
Gathering for prayer
Cultivating relationships with fellow believers
Ordinary actions of everyday life
And more.
For each act, the author provides a detailed set of recommended intentions, highlighting the unique rewards associated with each one. Habib Saʿd also cites numerous hadith, along with many insights from the scholars and the tradition, to illustrate the deep-seated importance of intentions in the life of a Muslim.
As a whole, this text is a powerful exhortation for the believers to make every permissible action purposeful, including even routine tasks like eating and drinking, waking and sleeping, buying and selling, and being in the company of our family and friends. Through these practical examples, Habib Saʿd illustrates how proper intentions can imbue our daily lives with sanctity and purpose, and help us to live in a continuous state of worship in every moment.
