  • The Gift of Durood and Salaam The Gift of Durood and Salaam

The Gift of Durood and Salaam

Undoubtedly, Hazrat Rasulullah (SAW) is the greatest human being and the pinnacle of Allah's (SWT) creation. it is the ultimate honour for every ummati of Hazrat Rasulullah (SAW) to be linked to Hazrat Rasulullah (SAW), the Imaan of all the Ambiyaa of Allah (SWT). Hazrat Rasulullah (SAW) is the source of hidayaat (guidance) for humanity at large, for it was none other than Hazrat Rasullullah (SAW) who was chosen to show us the path of guidance through which we can earn eternal bliss and salvation. The ability to worship and recognize Allah (SWT) correctly, and simultaneously fulfil the rihts of fellow humans, also depends entirely upon emulating the teachings of Hazrat Rasulullah (SAW).  Thus, when Hazrat Rasulullah (SAW) is essentially the source of good in this world and our guide to Paradise, and we are blessed to be his followers, then we can well imagine what rights he has over us and how indebted we are to him. Among the rights that Hazrat Rasulullah (SAW) has over us is that we obey him in all that he has commanded, we lead a life on conformity to his mubaarak lifestyle, and we continuously recite Durood and Salaam upon him.  Lamentably, on account of our busy schedules and preoccupation with commitments and mundane activities, we have drifted far away from Hazrat Rasulullah (SAW) and lost track of our main objectives and priorities in life. In view of the present situation, the need was felt to once again rekindle the love of Hazrat Rasulullah (SAW)  within our hearts, thereby enabling us to understand and follow the way of his mubaarak sunnah and reach Allah (SWT). Hence, this book titled "The Gift of Durood and Salaam" has been prepared which contains the virtues of durood and incidents regarding love for Rasulullah (SAW).

    Al Shamail al Muhammadiyya

Hardback cover320 pages, full-colour printHigh-quality glossy 115gsm paperGold gilded edgeIlluminating gold ink on each page Description Al-Shama’il al-Muhammadiyya (‘The Sublime Qualities of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ’) is the most famous collection of narrations detailing the moral, physical and spiritual perfections of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Commonly referred to as ‘The Shama’il’ and compiled by the prolific Imam al-Tirmidhi, this perennial masterpiece connects hearts to the Prophet’s blessed being ﷺ. The Shama’il generously invites us to experience the most detailed and exquisite qualities of the message-bearer—the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. This knowledge fundamentally alters, informs, and orients our understanding of the Message he brought. Knowing the Shama’il is a critical pre-requisite to properly understanding Islam in general and the Prophet’s life (Sira) in particular; his beautiful appearance, lifestyle and character provide the ultimate context for developing a deep, holistic appreciation of the Message and the Messenger at the same time. Without understanding the Shama’il, we’re likely to read Islam and the Prophet’s life through the lenses of our own socially-conditioned impressions and assumptions. Instead, the Shama’il leaves a profound and indelible impression that spiritually empowers us to apply Islam to our lives. Knowing the Shama’il is a tried and true means of filling our hearts with reverence for the Prophet ﷺ, which, in turn, fills our hearts with reverence for his Sacred Law. A form of praise in its own right, it provides a deep look into Prophet’s sublime beauty and serves as a means of connection, veneration and spiritual transformation. The Shama’il offers us tastes of delight and joy, and most importantly, engenders sincere love of Allah and His Messenger ﷺ in our hearts. To spend time with the Shama’il is to praise Allah and remember Him, for it is He who endows His beloved ﷺ with beautiful form and unparalleled character. The Sufi mystic and poet Jalāl ad-Dīn Muhammad Rūmī is most beloved for his writings which represent the ecstasies and mysteries of life in all its forms—erotic, platonic divine—which are fresh and intense today as when they were first written by this medieval Persian poet and spiritual genius.  In this compact volume, Reynold Alleyne Nicholson, the renowned Islamic scholar, combines his research in Sufi doctrines and history with a rich account of the spiritual and metaphysical significance of Sufism as a living tradition. This volume reveals Rūmī’s charm and depth of thought more than in any other book.

  • The Prophetic Invocations

    The Prophetic Invocations

Imam Al-Ghazali (may God’s mercy be on him) wrote in his book The Beginning of Guidance: You should not neglect your time or use it haphazardly; on the contrary you should bring yourself to account, structure your litanies and other practices during each day and night, and assign to each period a fixed and specific function. This is how to bring out the spiritual blessing (baraka) in each period. But if you leave yourself adrift, aimlessly wandering as cattle do, not knowing how to occupy yourself at every moment, your time will be lost. It is nothing other than your life, and your life is the capital that you make use of to reach perpetual felicity in the proximity of God the Exalted. Each of your breaths is a priceless jewel, since each of them is irreplaceable and, one gone, can never be retrieved. Do not be like the deceived fools who are joyous because each day their wealth increases while their life shortens. What good is an increase in wealth when life grows ever shorter? Therefore be joyous only for an increase in knowledge or in good works, for they are your two companions who will accompany you in your grave when your family, wealth, children, and friends stay behind.

Malcolm X: The Struggle for Human Rights by Recep Şentürk

One of the 20th century’s most influential Muslims, Malcolm X – El-Hajj Malik Al-Shabazz – led a dynamic life and passed through many phases of thought. But one aspect of his thought remained constant – to never remain silent in the face of oppression.   In Malcolm X: The Struggle for Human Rights, Recep Şentürk offers more than a biography of a beloved figure in American history: he explores the concept of universal human rights in Islam using the life of Malcolm X as an example of a human rights struggle.   Engaging and innovative, the book is divided into three sections, dealing with Malcolm X’s life, beliefs and struggle in turn. In the first part, we learn about his early years, his time in prison and his hajj. In a section on his evolving faith, we learn about his youth as a Christian, his time with the Nation of Islam and his discovery of mainstream Islam. In the final section, Şentürk offers a new perspective: how we can relate slavery, abolition, civil rights and voting rights to Malcolm X’s struggle

  • Muhammad (s): 11 Leadership Qualities that Changed the World

Muhammad (s): 11 Leadership Qualities that Changed the World

This profound statement by Prophet Muhammad (s) compels us to recognise that we are all leaders at some level. But what makes someone a good leader? And how does each and everyone of us measure up against the leadership standards set by the Prophet? This book presents a well researched leadership framework combined with extensively applied contemporary practitioner case studies for the first time to readers interested in a Sirah (prophetic life) based universal model for good leadership. Drawing upon scholarly findings from eastern and western sources, and having examined an extensive range of works on Sirah, an original framework of eleven prophetic leadership qualities are presented with an entire chapter devoted to each. Well known and lesser known events from the Sirah are explored and analysed like never before, and viewed with a specialist leadership lens, extracting insights on effective people management, authentic leadership and succeeding against the odds. Each chapter on leadership qualities offers not only what the quality means and where it can be found in the life of the Prophet, but how one can develop those qualities within themselves as well.

  • The Book of Love – Muhammad bin Yahya al-Ninowy

The Book of Love – Muhammad bin Yahya al-Ninowy

This is based on a talk given at the official launch of Shaykh Muhammad ibn Yahya al-Ninowy’s book, The Book of Love, at the Academia Library. WHEN we pick up a copy of Shaykh Muhammad ibn Yahya al-Ninowy’s latest book, The Book of Love, we expect it to be a serious tone, with seriously weighty content. Serious the book is, indeed, but when the first page opens, we see a sentence resting upon a page. At first glance, it defies the senses. We expect books to be full of words, chapters, meandering paragraphs and lush descriptions. Instead, we are confronted by little bunches of words, like cherries tantalisingly placed in a bowl. And then we read, and then we realise that the The Book of Love has a few words, but actually says a lot more – a lot. In fact, as one dives deeper and deeper into its pages, and its meanings, it becomes a big ocean – or as a Sufi Shaykh always used to say – a Mercy Ocean.   Shaykh Ninowy, a scholar of classical training and tradition, has skillfully and strategically placed a series of aphorisms, or sayings and quotes, over 322 pages. A summary of his thoughts on a number of issues over the years, it has no particular order, but still creates a coherent whole. Normally when I buy a book, I get excited. I’m old fashioned. I hate the distant, digital feel of tablets. I like to look at a book’s texture, design, paper and even smell. For me, a book is still a tactile experience. As a hard cover on high quality paper, the The Book of Love feels just right. As a bibliophile, I also have a strange habit – I sometimes read a book backwards, or randomly open it at any page. So it should come as no surprise that the first page I opened in The Book of Love was page 122, and not page one. I came across aphorism #57: “Islam is a religion that came to give life, not to take it away”. I glanced across to #58: “It is never about fatwa, but about taqwa…” Interestingly, both were things I had actually heard Shaykh Ninowy saying. They have always struck me, because so few have been able to bring the inherent poetry of classical Arabic into their English as Shaykh Ninowy – who hails form a scholarly family from Aleppo – has. Paging forwards, this time, I stopped at #73: “This Din of ours is a Din of love – no love, no Din. The Beloved sent his Beloved out of love, with love, for the sake of love”. This Rumi-esque statement enjoys resonance in this world of sectarian hatred, and speaks to the spirit of Shari’ah, which aphorism #81 certainly does: “Love is a moral law…it connects you to the soul of the universe, gives wings to the heart, unlimited skies to the mind, and life to life itself…” Undeniably, the aphorisms are a tapestry woven together with experiential wisdom. We catch a whiff of Qur’an here, Hadith there…with Shaykh Ninowy holding the needle and thread. The Book of Love is a companion, a very accessible and readable companion – but it’s also framed as a classical text, the hub of a multi-layered commentary that will be filled out by sharh, or explanation. Each aphorism in this book, therefore, is a door to another – as one travels from room to perfumed room. It is a refuge for the soul, and an escape from the undesirable human urges that drive us. But more importantly, The Book of Love is a book of wasatiyyah, the celebrated Qur’anic middle way. However, wasatiyyah, or moderation in all things, is not a capitulation, or a watering down, of the core values of belief. Wasatiyyah is totally, uncompromisingly, absolutely, about love. Wasatiyyah is love, and love is wasatiyyah. It is truly, unselfishly, loving for others what you love for yourself. This is a key to the Nur ul-Muhammadiyyah, the Prophetic light – a light of love and knowledge that awaits every soul on this earth. The Book of Love is an extraordinary book written for extraordinary times – an era where confusion is the King, ignorance the Queen and Mr Nafs the treasurer. The Book of Love shines a light that shrinks the contemporary darkness. It is a book for everybody, and a mercy to all. The Book of Love published by the Madina Institute, 2018. By Shafiq Morton; Published in the Muslim Views, August 2018 Soft Cover
